A commission from the depths
Every New Years VRC has an event where creators and companies can have booths to promote themselves and their communities. For the 2025 NYE event, EOZ was able to have a booth separate from the others and up in front in the world.
They commissioned me to concept and model their booth. Over a couple of iterations and working with their team, we came to an amazing booth in the shape of an angler fish! This kept it in theme with the underwater event. They also wanted to do a low poly and pixelated look, which I kept consistent throughout, even for the product models.
I only had about a week to get this scene done, but even then I was able to get it in ahead of schedule for them, which made it easier on the VRC team too.
In total, there were 10 main iterations. The original concept worked off of a normal booth layout, to then being updated to the special booth layout to then versions modifying the layout and key elements in the scene.
I couldn't use baked lighting in the scene as it was being imported into the larger event scene. To get around this, I had a version of the scene setup so I could bake the lighting in Unity, export the baked light texture, and then in photoshop multiply it over the base color to manually add the lighting data into the base color. The result was something that looked good and was optimized too!
